Tumbleweed selects synapse™ to bring agentic hardware development to Earth-return capsules
Barcelona, October 2026. Tumbleweed, the company that is making microgravity accessible for research and industry, has chosen synapse™ as its agentic hardware development platform.
Tumbleweed exists to make a trip to space as simple as sending a parcel. A researcher or manufacturer places an experiment inside Pod, a pre-certified container, and Tumbleweed flies it to microgravity aboard its own spacecraft, taking care of everything between the lab bench and space. The first of those platforms, Oasis Alpha, went from a blank page to delivery in under nine months and launched in July 2026 carrying four customer experiments. Work has already begun on Oasis Beta, which will bring experiments back to Earth.
One model of the spacecraft
With synapse™, engineers at Tumbleweed work on Oasis as a single digital model of the spacecraft: one connected, versioned source for the whole system. AI agents work on that model alongside the engineers to describe the system, make engineering decisions and iterate continuously the design.
Systems engineering is a tool you use to keep track of what you're doing, but everybody should be building something. No one's entire job should be paperwork. What I like about synapse™ is that it's easy to understand compared to most engineering software. Everybody can access it, make a quick change, and it gets recorded.

For most of its history, hardware engineering has been held together by documents and by the people who remember what is in them. That arrangement works until the machine becomes more complex than any one person can keep in their head, which for a spacecraft that has to re-enter the atmosphere it happens early. synapse™ is designed to keep the system description complete as the system grows, with agents carrying the work between disciplines.
Tumbleweed is building spacecraft at a pace most of the industry would call impossible, and that pace only survives if the engineering stays coherent as the system grows and the operations scale. That is what agentic hardware development is about: the spacecraft as a living digital model, with agents carrying the work between disciplines, and engineers doing what they do best: building.

Technology made in Europe
Systellar is proud to work with pioneering companies like Tumbleweed to bring agentic hardware development to the European space industry. synapse™ is designed and built in Europe, and Systellar is committed to helping European space companies secure fast, secure and sovereign access to space.
